Seeds

Small beginnings. Specific requirements.

A seed purchase starts with a clear specification. The identity of the seed, the information on its label and the purpose of the planting each describe a different part of the requirement. Seeds are one of the four categories in the wholesale activity of FGH SEEDS.

What defines
your requirement?

Use these considerations to distinguish the material you need and compare descriptions on consistent terms.

Identity

Use the species and variety name, when known, to describe the material. A common name alone may refer to more than one type.

Lot information

Where supplied, review the lot identifier, label, germination information and date of testing together. These describe the particular lot, rather than every seed in a category.

Use & quantity

Distinguish material intended for planting from other uses. Specify the amount and unit needed so that quantities can be compared consistently.

Conditions

The planting location and planned season are relevant to suitability. Establish the appropriate variety with a qualified local adviser before committing to a planting plan.

Before choosing

Read the specification, not just the category.

Seed identity and lot data answer different questions: the first identifies the material, while the second describes a specific batch. Keep both with any quotation or purchase documentation. When comparing seed lots, use the same units and read any accompanying test information in its stated context.
